Chiswick House was designed and built in the 1720's by Lord Burlington, a wealthy and influential arts enthusiast, as a showcase for his ideas on Palladian architecture inspired by an Italian grand tour.
Now the various styles of the cascading east wings make the rear facade seem like a fantasy street scene

The gardens are a curious cross between Italianate formalism - a geometric layout with urns, statues and follies - and romantic naturalism - a long lake and untamed wilderness.
A lush park large enough to get lost in.

Incidental Information: There are no pictures here of the inside of the house due to the bureaucracy and expenses involved. It was like pulling teeth trying to get help from the staff.
